Dr. Margaret Y. McCarron (Yvonne)

MANSFIELD CENTER Dr. Margaret Y. McCarron (Yvonne), a resident of Mansfield Center, CT, passed from this life on January 18, 2018.

Margaret Yvonne McCarron was born June 25, 1929 in Anacortes, WA, the daughter of Joseph Bert and Jeanne McCarron. She was raised in Anacortes.

At age 15, she left home to fulfill a calling she felt to become a nun and joined the local novitiate. She taught school in the early years and then was trained in medical science and earned her doctorate.

In the early 60s she felt she could better fulfill her calling by again becoming a civilian and continued to pursue her career and eventually became a genetic scientist at the University of Connecticut from where she retired. She worked under Dr. Arthur Chovnick, professor of Genetics and Cell Biology at the University of Connecticut.

After retirement she enjoyed participating in ballroom dance competitions, tai chi exercise and HAM Radio operations, she was an ordained minister of the Church of Wisdom and was well known by her friends and family as an Herbalist.

On the East Coast, her friends all knew her as Margaret and on the West Coast, her friends and family all knew her as Yvonne.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Mary Y. Jorgensen (Yvette) and Bobetta M Ginnett (Bobbi) and nephews, Mike Nelson and Steve Jorgensen. She is survived by her niece, Fawn Huff, and nephews, Donald Jorgensen, Andy Jorgensen, Michael Jorgensen, Tom Nelson, David Nelson, and Randy Nelson.

Many thanks go out to Charlie Fitts who has helped Margaret over the recent years with errands and Bobbijo Rowett and the staff of Home Instead Senior care and the staff of Douglas Manor Nursing Home.

No services are planned. Cremation was under the direction of Woyasz & Son Funeral Services and she will be laid to rest at Grandview Cemetery, Anacortes, WA.
