WMS ‘Family Night’ to welcome newest pupils

WILLIMANTIC — Students in the Windham Middle School before and after-school program will showcase their talents during “Puentes al Futuro/Bridges to the Future Family Night” Thursday.

The event is scheduled to run from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the middle school, located at 123 Quarry St. The event is free and open to the public.

It will include dance performances, singing, a fashion show, art and sports.

Families will bring dishes to share as well.

Puentes Al Futuro coordinators have been reaching out to students and the families who are new to the area from Puerto Rico to invite them to the event.

Elsie DeJesus, coordinator of client services at the Windham Senior Center, will speak at the event as well as Wineida Cruz, family outreach worker/homeless family support, in the school district and a representative of Generations Family Health Center.

DeJesus has been providing families coming from Puerto Rico with information about services available in the area.

During the event, several agencies will provide information at tables in an effort to reach families who are new to the region.
